Decision to create Bangladesh Air Force in Sector Commanders Forum of 1971 was decided. The Air Force started its formal journey on September 28, 1971.
Initially, the Bangladesh Air Force’s manpower was the defective Bengali officers and the air force of the Pakistan Air Force.
Squadron Leader Sultan Mahmud, former PIA pilot Captain Shahabuddin Ahmed, former PIA pilot Captain Sattar, former PIA pilot Captain Sarfuddin and former Agriculture Department pilot Captain Akram Ahmed organized Bangladesh Air Force in India. The Indian Air Force is trained as a pilot pilot for officers who joined the Bangladesh Air Force. The launch of Bangladesh Air Force started with a Dakota DC-3 transport aircraft, a Twin-Outer Transportation Aircraft and an Aluet Three Helicopter, gifted as India.
